This cottage is a restored shearers’ quarters used when this 350 hectare (1000 acre)
property was a farm carrying more than 3000 merino ewes in the 1920s and 30s.
Te Matuku Bay is a Marine Reserve. The Department of Conservation land across the
bay hosts many wading bird species. Paddle the Indian canoe or the paddle boards
provided to explore the mangrove forest.
The oyster farm, part owned by the Fenwicks, produces Te Matuku branded oysters
to Auckland’s best restaurants. They are available, along with fresh fish, at the Tahi Rd
Oyster Shop.
The property also farms sheep and cattle and a market garden.
